Professional Internship
For my final course to complete my master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications, I completed an internship with Butterfly Bayou. Butterfly Bayou is a faith-based women’s growth community based in Houston, Texas. Throughout the internship, I was responsible for creating and
implementing a social media calendar, producing visual content, editing videos, and analyzing social media insights.
Omena Abenabe founded Butterfly Bayou after recognizing the need for women to have a community where they could grow in faith, wellness, career, finances, and relationships. Her goal is to
create a safe place where women can build, balance, and thrive. Omena used her life experience and faith to create a workbook, Go For Goals, that is available for purchase on Amazon. This workbook provides women in the community with a building block to avoid crashing and burning.
was tasked with social media management for Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. I recommended a social media content calendar to help organize and schedule content throughout each month.
This calendar would also help all those who contribute content by providing a guideline for deadlines and types of content.
My direct supervisor creates video content for the Butterfly Bayou YouTube channel. I was tasked with editing these videos. As she would upload the videos, I would give tips on how to help make them easier to edit. Talking too quickly can make it harder to edit unwanted parts of the video. It is also difficult to use a video with poor quality resolution, lighting, or sound. I ensured that I communicated with her to ensure that she did not need to record the videos multiple times.
